Woman Killed in Mistaken Identity Murder-for-Hire, Intended Victim Was Her Sister

Three people were arrested and charged in an alleged murder-for-hire plot after they killed the wrong woman, Alisha Canales-McGuire, 24. They had actually intended to kill the victim’s sister.

On September 20, 2017, Alisha was fatally shot in the doorway of the home of her sister in Everett, Washington.

According to Police Alisha's sister, who was out of the time when the murder unfolded, was actually the intended target.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that the victim was at her sister's home at the time when she was murdered.

Jerradon Phelps, 20, and a 17-year-old woman on charges of first-degree criminal conspiracy to commit murder and first-degree aggravated murder with a firearm.

Kevin Lewis, 31, the ex-husband of the intended victim and the former brother-in-law of Alisha, is also facing the same charges.

He is currently serving 39 months in prison for assault. He is additionally charged with solicitation to commit murder.

Alisha's father Manuel Canales told media that the arrests of the suspects won't bring her back but "it gives us justice to what we already knew."

Manuel said his daughter was newlywed; just two months ago, she became married, and was "trying to get pregnant and have kids."
