Willis started his on-screen career in 2009 with Special Ops Mission under the call sign Whiskey Whiskey. The American reality television series, which premiered on August 13, 2009, on  Military Channel (now American Heroes Channel), featured Willis performing solo special-ops missions against groups of operatives from opposing forces (OPFOR) largely consisting of regular and special operations veterans.

In 2011 Wil started out with Triggers: Weapons That Changed the World, which premiered on American Heroes Channel. The show had Willis testing different iconic weapons, ranging from muskets and pistols to assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades. Along with displaying the weapon’s ability, Willis also examines their historical significance. Mike Tristano, a renowned, fully licensed master armorer with over 25 years of experience, provided most of the weapons featured on the show.

Beginning from 2015, Willis has appeared as host in the program Forged in Fire, on History Channel. Produced by Outpost Entertainment, a Leftfield Entertainment company, every episode of the series features four bladesmiths competing in a three-round elimination contest to forging bladed weapons. The winner of the show takes home 10,000 dollars and the day's championship title.

Given his military career, people often think of Willis as strict and regimented in real life. But beneath the military façade is a loving and affectionate man who has been in a years-long affair with girlfriend Krystle Amina.

Although Wil and Krystle remained secretive about their relationship in the past, they have become more outspoken lately, with Wil taking to Instagram to share his engagement news in April 2017

In addition to hosting hugely popular TV shows, the American national also teaches a course in Technical Combat Casualty Care to military units. The popular TV host and army veteran is of white ethnicity and currently lives in California. His net worth is estimated to be $17 million.
