Harty Condolence! Wayson Choy, the author of the Award-winning novel The Jade Peony, has died at the age of 80.
His death was confirmed by his agent Denise Bukowski. Denise took to Twitter on Sunday, April 28, to announce that the writer passed away peacefully in his bed Saturday night (27th April.)

'The Jade Peony' was Wayson's first novel and during an interview with Eleanor Wachtel on CBC Radio in 1996, he said that it took him 18 years to complete writing the book.
The Jade Peony received the Trillium Book Award in 1995. The novel was also a finalist in Canada Reads 2010 when the founder of War Child, Samantha Nutt, defended it.
It was also shortlisted for the Giller Prize in 2004.
Funeral and memorial services for the late author will be announced in the coming days. Rest In Peace Wayson Choy!
