Vinny Vella, a veteran actor best known for his appearance in the 1995 film Casino and 1999 television sitcom The Sopranos, has died. He was 72.
His death was confirmed by his family. The family took to his Facebook account and confirmed that Vella passed away on Wednesday, February 20.
As for the cause of death, according to the Facebook statement, he died from liver cancer.
The Facebook statement read,
We are saddened to report that Vinny Vella has passed and I’m sure that no one more saddened than himself. Vinny loved life from his family to his friends and fans he was easily one of the funniest, endearing actors to have ever graced the screen. Vinny also had integrity and pride rarely seen.
The statement continued,
Arguably the fastest on the draw, king of the comebacks. His verbal jousting was legendary but many know Vinny for his favorite saying – ‘Who’s better than you?’ Well Vinny, I think we all can agree on the answer to that, it was you, it always was you! We miss you my boy!
Vella, who played Artie Piscano along with Robert De Niro in Casino, is also widely recognized for his role in Analyze That (2002). He portrayed Jimmy Petrille in The Sopranos which ran from 1999 to 2004.
He once hosted a television cable television show, The Vinny Vella Show, for New York City’s MNN. His other credits include Find Me Guilty and Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai.
Funeral and memorial services for the late veteran actor will be announced in the coming days. Rest In Peace Vinny Vella!
