A Texas woman, namely Emily "Susan" Law, 49, was allegedly killed by her ex-boyfriend, James Freeman, 46, just days after she filed a protective order against him.

Emily was a triathlete and she was due to compete in a race. She was set to take part in the Ironman Triathlon in Houston on Saturday, May 4. But her boyfriend allegedly killed her in the kitchen of her home five days earlier.

According to Watauga Police Chief Robert Parker, James was fatally shot by police officers after he pointed a shotgun at them at Law’s house in Fort Worth, Watauga on Monday, April 29.

Authorities have not confirmed the cause of death of the late triathlete.

Robert said,

We still have an ongoing investigation. We want to not only make sure we have the right person but that there are not any other issues involved.

However, he added that the department believes that "[Freeman] is a suspect in the homicide and we do believe he is responsible for it."

Officials say James had a criminal history.
