At least two people were killed after a man, namely Leon Steven Jones, opened fire apparently at "random" outside a mall near Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee.

He randomly shot at the scene, killing a woman and injuring a man and then turned the gun on himself.

The gunman was later identified as Leon Steven Jones of Newport-Sevierville. The woman who was shot to death was Olivia Katel Cunningham, 24, of York, Pennsylvania.

The wounded man, who is identified as John Marr, 75, of Templeton, Massachusetts, was taken to a nearby hospital, University of Tennessee Medical Center. It's unknown in what condition the old man is.

The motive for the shooting is unclear. Investigators say the shooter appeared to not know either victim, noting that none of them were related.

A spokesman for Sevierville police, Bob Stahlke said that all three victims were shot with a semiautomatic handgun.

According to the Knoxville News Sentinel report, Bob said,

I don’t know if he was going to shoot one and two people and then do what he did, or if his intent was to shoot more. I just don’t know. But all we can do in law enforcement is to get here as quick as we can. And this situation was over when we got here.

The Tanger Outlets mall remained open but a small area at the mall cordoned off as a crime scene.
