In October 1957, when Ted was in his law school, he met Virginia Joan Bennett. Virginia Joan Bennett is a socialite, musician and author from United States. She is also famous for being a former model. They got engaged few months later. Though she hesitated to precede this engagement into marriage, they got married on 29th of November 1958. As a married couple, they became parents three times. Though they were happy to have each other in their life, they announced their separation in 1978 and they finally got divorced in 1983.
Ted was raised in several places of United States as a result he attended ten different schools when he was just 11. When he was in his 6th grade he got enrolled at Fessenden School. He also attended Cranwell Preparatory School for several years. Later he got enrolled at Milton Academy prep school and finally graduated from there in 1950. After that he joined Harvard College; however in 1951 he was expelled for cheating. He joined United States Army in 1951. Next year, he served as an honor guard at SHAPE headquarters in Paris. He ran in the 1962 U.S. Senate special election in Massachusetts, a position vacated by his brother John. He won this election in September and sworn in to the Senate in November.
