Suspect Who Shot a Alabama Police Officer to Death, Arrested on Murder Charge

A suspected who fatally shot a police officer, William Buechner, to death and wounded two others at a trailer park in Alabama on Sunday, May 19, has been arrested.

Grady Wayne Wilkes, 29, was taken into custody on Monday, May 20, after an overnight manhunt, authorities have confirmed.

The man has been facing multiple charges including capital murder and three counts of attempted murder. He was charged with domestic violence as well.

The police officers were shot after they responded to a call about a domestic disturbance at the Arrowhead Trailer Park in Auburn, Alabama.

Following the shooting, dozens of officials from various law enforcement agencies started a search for the suspect.

Paul Register, the Auburn Police Department Chief, had described the gunman as "armed and definitely considered dangerous."

The two injured officers were rushed to the hospital and they are expected to survive.

Webb Sistrunk, who is an 8-year veteran, was still hospitalized in not critical condition.

Meanwhile, Evan Elliott, who has been serving the department since 2018, was released from the hospital after being treated.
