According to the post shared on its Facebook page, the martial artist's role is to promote a healthy humanitarian relationship between Russia and America.

Seagal will also need to improve the interaction between the two countries in case of culture, art, public and youth exchanges, and such other developmental activities.

The foreign affairs ministry stated that the role of Steven is fully an unpaid one, the same as UN's goodwill ambassador positions.

Following the appointment of Steven Seagal, the Russian Embassy in the US also took to their Twitter to announce the news.

Similarly, Seagal also displayed the honor of being a special representative through a tweet in his official Twitter profile. The tweet read,

I am deeply humbled and honored to have been appointed as a special representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry in charge of Russian and American Humanitarian ties.

He further went on to say,

I hope we can strive for peace, harmony and positive results in the world. I take this honor very seriously.

The actor, who is also a close friend of the Russian President Vladimir Putin, received his Russian citizenship in 2016. Recently, in May 2018, Steven was seen in Putin's swearing-in ceremony as he has been a supporter of the Putin government since long.

The news of Steven Seagal becoming an honorary envoy of Russia was already out on the media in 2013 as a tabloid reported that the Russian President had suggested the then-President Barack Obama, to make Seagal an envoy to improve the US-Russia Relations.

The same year, the California Republican Representative Dana Rohrabacher also acknowledged the actor for facilitating meetings with the Russian delegates in the wake of Boston Marathon Bombings.

The meeting between the Russian emissary and the congressional spokesperson took place for the investigation of the suspects' backgrounds and also for the discussion of the intelligence sharing issues between the two countries.
