Christopher was born as Christopher Theodore Ruben Studdard on September 12, 1978, in Frankfurt, West Germany, as the son of Emily and Kevin. His father is a secondary teacher and entrepreneur whereas his mother is an elementary teacher. He is the youngest children of his family and was brought up in Birmingham, Alabama.
When Christopher was three years old, he began singing in the choir of a local Baptist Church together with his mother. He was inspired by his mother to sing and she often made him participate in plays, choir competitions, and musicals.
Christopher joined Huffman High School, where he was a part of its football team. After completion of his high school, he enrolled at Alabama A & M University on a sports scholarship. However, he changed his major to music studies and graduated in 2000.
At the beginning of his singing career, Christopher joined a local jazz band called Few Cats. He frequently recorded demos for several music production houses, but never released an album. Eventually, he heard of American Idol from his friend and went to Nashville to audition for this show.
During audition of American Idol, Christopher sang a song of Stevie Wonders called Ribbon in the Sky. In May 2003, he became the winner of American Idol with his songs Superstar and A Whole New World over runner-up Clay Aiken by only 134,000 votes out of 24,000,000 cast.
After he became the winner of American Idol, he released his first single Flying Without Wings that aired on radio. Soon after that, he released his debut album Soulful, which received a million pre-orders and became number one on the ‘Billboard 200 album chart’.
After a year, Christopher released his first gospel album called I Need an Angel. Likewise, he also sang a single Shining Star in the movie Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.
In 2011, Christopher made a recording contract with Shanachie Entertainment. The following year, he released his fifth album Letters from Birmingham. The single titled Do It Right performed well at the US music charts.
Apart from his singing career, Christopher has been featured in numerous television series and movies. He featured in an American sitcom comedy television show 8 Simple Rules, which was created by Tracy Gamble. The others stars of this show are John Ritter, Kaley Cuoco, Amy Davidson, and Martin Spanjers. Likewise, he also appeared in Life on a Stick, All of Us, Eve, and Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.
Christopher is an American by nationality and belongs to African-American ethnicity. He married his girlfriend Surata Zuri McCants on June 28, 2008, in a short private ceremony in Mountain Brook, Alabama. The couple met each other while Christopher was signing CDs at a Wal-Mart in Atlanta.
However, the couple has not shared any information about their children. He lived together with his wife McCants for about four years, and they got divorced in April 2012. Besides this, he has not shared any information regarding his past affair and relationship.
