As a beginning of her career, Ellis started working as a broadcaster at KDKA-TV, radio station in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as well as served as an Anchor and Reporter at WHDH-TV in Boston.
Before joining NBC Ellis worked at several television stations including NBC as a general assignment reporter, where she served over 20 years. In NBC, as a reporter, she involved with some of the most concerned topics of the time, which includes Hurricane Katrina of 2005, the plane on the Hudson River of 2009
Further, Ellis handled the presidential election in 2005, the attack on World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, mass killing in Zaire, the death of Michael Jackson, and Summer Olympics games in Greece and much more.
