In the early 1960s, Piper worked in the movie American drama film The Hustler. With the release of this movie, she became well known actress in United States and later on she was interviewed by a writer and film critics Joe Morgenstern. Few months later, they announced that they are seeing each other as a loving couple and they finally got married on 21st of January 1962. As a loving husband and wife, they welcomed a daughter named Anne Grace Morgenstern. She got her rise in fame in the early 1960s after she starred the role of Sarah Packard in an American drama film The Hustler. She is also well acclaimed for portraying the role of Margaret White in Carrie and Mrs. Norman in Children of a Lesser God. For her role in Carrie, she earned the salary of $10,000.
