Jackson started his career as basket ball player from his college life. He was the member of the "Sigma Alpha Eplison Fraternity" where he played in the NCAA division 2 tournament.
In 1967, Jackson joined in the second round by the New York Knicks while he was good athlet3. Jackson proved himself as the fan favorite and one of the leading player although he played for a short time. During New York 1969-70 championship season Jackson was unable to play because of spinal fusion surgery.
Jackson also served as a coach for the various team including New Jersy (1978-1981), Albany Patroons (1982-1987), Chicago Bulls as Assistant(1987-1989), and as a coach (1989-2004), and Los Angeles Lakers (2005-2011).
