SHOOTING STARS When Is The Leonid Meteor Shower 2017: Where And When Can Watch It Tonight?

Have a look up during the next few nights and try to catch the Leonid meteor shower. It is peaking during the early morning on Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18.

And you know what? This happens every year as Earth’s orbit moves through the Comet Tempel-Tuttle trail. As we know the earth’s orbit and it's timing, we can make some predictions when it moves through the debris of a comet.

For example each year we know we will pass through Halley’s Comet in October and that’s the time when the Orionid meteor shower peaks.

A meteor is a piece of rock which floats in space and becomes visible as it burns up in our atmosphere. If a meteor becomes successful to reach to the ground without burning up completely, it would be called a meteorite.

The Leonid Meteor shower looks to be a “lighter” one in terms of activity. The moon will go into the “new phase” on November 18, opposite of full moon and this is because it will not pollute the sky with brightness.

Thus, the sky should be clean and dark to take in a shooting star. But what about the cloud forecast?

These are the cloud forecasts during peak time for the Leonid meteor shower. Again, peak activity will be held between midnight and dawn Friday and Saturday. Have a safe and happy viewing!
