In 2001, in an interview with Rolling Stone, he admitted that he spent three months in the California Institution for Men following an attempted burglary, to selling and using recreational drugs over a period of several years, as well as to struggling with drug addiction.

Shifty Shellshock has been arrested lots of time in his life from his addiction to drugs and his immoral activities. On March 27, 2011, police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance between Binzer and his girlfriend. He was accused of illegal act and was arrested for outstanding warrants and released later that day.
