Harty Condolence! Andre Williams, the R&B singer and producer who is best knows as Godfather of Rap, has died. He was 82.
His death was confirmed by his manager, Kenn Goodman, to Billboard. Goodman told the publication that the musician passed away on Sunday, March 17, in at a hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
As for the cause of death, the manager told the outlet that Williams died after a battle with colon cancer from which he was diagnosed two weeks ago.
The disease reportedly spread to the late songster's lungs and brain because of which "his body started shutting down pretty quickly."
As per the report, Williams had been battling with multiple other health issues, including seizures and strokes. Despite the diseases, he was "committed to trying to sing and record again."
Shortly after his death news emerged, his label Pravda Records, took to Facebook to pay tribute to him, expressing the sadness over his passing.
The label wrote,
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of legendary artist Andre Williams. He touched our lives and the lives of countless others.
Besides his solo performances, Williams, who was born on November 1st, 1936, in Bessemer, Alabama, had also collaborated with multiple renowned artists such as Ike & Tina Turner, Parliament, Mary Wells and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
