Florida Plane Crash Leaves Lawyer and his Two Daughters Dead

A Christmas Eve getaway turned into a tragedy on Sunday after a twin-engine Cessna 340 plane crashed soon after leaving Bartow Municipal Airport.

Lawyer John Shannon along with his two daughters, Olivia and Victoria, along with Victoria's husband, Peter Worthington, Jr., and a family friend, Krista Clayton, died in the crash while heading to Key West.

According to reports, they flew at about 7:15 a.m. but fell back to the ground almost immediately after that. The plane subsequently caught fire. The crash is said to have killed Shannon and his four passengers immediately.

The crash was recorded by a photographer trying to capture the morning fog in his camera. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told reporters, “There was no chance of survival—ever”. He added, "This is an absolutely horrific tragedy, especially on Christmas Eve. Please keep these victims and their family members in your prayers."

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the cause of the crash was not immediately clear. However, the likely culprit was the heavy fog, which had brought visibility down to near zero in the area.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will further investigate the crash. The sheriff’s office has also said that a medical examiner will confirm the identities of the victims and autopsies will determine the precise causes of death.
