Burkina Faso Church Attack: Six People Including a Pastor Killed in West Africa

Six people, including a pastor, were killed in an attack on Burkina Faso Church in West Africa. The pastor and the worshipper were attacked by an armed group of men.

The attack took place on Sunday, April 28, in the village of Silgadji,  the capital of Soum province. Two other people are reportedly missing.

On condition of anonymity, a security source said, "Unidentified armed individuals have attacked the Protestant church in Silgadji."

The communications director of the Sahel region of Burkina Faso, Urbain Kabore, told media on Monday, April 29, that the six people died after Sunday services.

Remy Fulgance Dandjinou, a spokesman for the government, said it was the first attack on a church since sectarian violence unfolded in the West African nation.

Muslim leaders and imams were also came under attack.

More than 60 percent of the population of the country is Muslim, nearly 25 percent is Christian, and the rest population is indigenous religions.

In a separate incident in east Burkina Faso, five teachers were shot and killed on Friday, April 26, authorities said.
