A newborn baby girl with the umbilical cord still attached was found in the middle of a roadway in California on Monday, February 11.
The baby was discovered by a newspaper delivery man, namely Aurelio Fuentes Jr., while he was delivering copies of Fresno Bee newspaper outside the city.
Aurelio told the paper that at he didn’t know at first that what he was seeing as it was 4:30 a.m. and dark.
He initially thought it was a small animal and when approached it slowly, he found a baby lying on its back. The baby, whose umbilical cord was still attached to her body, was dressed in a onesie without a diaper.
A woman in a car told Aurelio to bring the newborn into her car. The newspaper delivery man brought the baby inside the car, unzipped her onesie and warmed her.
Authorities took the girl for treatment. Investigators are searching for a woman who reportedly asked a man to take of "her child" earlier. The woman is reported to be in her 20s.
Aurelio considers if he wasn't there, the baby would not alive as there are coyotes in the area. He told the newspaper that he would be finishing delivery of the papers the next day, hoping that customers understand.
