Mother-Daughter Duo Arrested & Charged For Murder of Matriarch in Prescott, Arizona

A mother, Tara Aven, 46, and daughter, Briar Aven, 24, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of the matriarch of the family in Prescott, Arizona.

The body of a woman, namely Sandra Aven, 77, was found on Tuesday, April 9, and police said she died one year ago. The suspects of the woman have just been identified as her daughter and granddaughter.

Prescott police said that the mother-daughter duo was booked into Yavapai County Jail and they have been charged with first-degree murder and suspicion of fraud schemes and evidence tampering.

Police said that Tara and Briar cashed numerous checks sent to Sandra Aven for several years. The case is being investigated as a homicide.

Tara and Briar live next door to Sandra Aven. They were questioned about the whereabouts of Sandra before the authorities entered her home where they found a body that was not identified initially.

It's unknown how the mother and daughter killed the 77-year-old woman. Details about their motive to kill her have also not been disclosed.
