Mike was born as Michael Gregory Rowe in Baltimore, Maryland, the United States of America to parents, John and Peggy Rowe. He is an American and he is of white ethnicity. Mike got enrolled at Overlea High School; there he became active in theater and singing. After his high school graduation, he attended Essex Community College and Towson University.

In 1979, Mike was in a Scout in Troop 16 in Baltimore. At the Maryland School for the Blind, he served on a project for Eagle Scout where he read aloud to students; from that time on he shared an interest in narrating and writing.

He currently narrates Deadliest Catch (2005-present), How the Universe Works, Airplane Reop and hosts a number of shows like C.R.A.P, Returning the Favor and Somebody's Gotta Do It (2017- present). 

He has narrated programs on the Discovery Channel, The Science Channel, and National Geographic Channel such as Deadliest CatchHow the Universe Works, and Shark Week.

Also, a former opera singer, Mike Rowe is also an author. In March 2014, he published his only book to date titled Profoundly Disconnected: A True Confession from Mike Rowe. He is famous for his work in the TV series Dirty Jobs.
