Following the steps of her skate loving family, Michelle began skating at the age of five. Likewise, she always had the support from her parents, which later helped her to become one of the most decorated figure skaters in U.S history. Michelle graduated from the University of Denver and enrolled to Tuft University where she did master’s program.
In the beginning of her career, Michelle trained with the former American skater, Frank Carroll. After one year of coaching by Carroll, she became 9th at the junior level at the United States Figure Skating championship. Similarly, Michelle also contended for her first nationals skating at the age of twelve where she passed the gold test to become a senior-level figure skater.
Including her diligent performance, Michelle has earned wide recognition and numerous awards throughout her career. Besides her career as a figure skater, she has made an appearance in the movies as well such as Mulan II, Ice Castles, and Reflections on Ice: Michelle Kwan Skates to the Music of Disney’s “Mulan”.
Michelle has also served as a television correspondent for the 2010 Winter Olympics at ABC television show. Currently, she works in the U.S State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. She worked as an outreach coordinator in Hilary Clinton's 2016 Presidential campaign.
Moving towards her personal life, Michelle got engaged to Clay Pell, a White House national security expert. After the month of their engagement, the couple got married in Providence, Rhode Island where many skating stars attended their marriage ceremony.
