At the age of 15, Perry moved from Ottawa to Los Angeles to chase his acting. There he attended The Buckley School located in Sherman Oaks and graduated in 1987. 

Perry's debut movie was A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon; released in 1988. He then became a guest on the series Growing Pains, where he featured as Carol Seaver’s boyfriend who dies in an accident.

Matthew became popular from the hit series Friends which was produced by Martha Kaufman and David Crane. He is famous as Chandler Bing; the name came after his appearance in the friends.
