Mary Hart is a multilingual and speaks English, Swedish and Danish. Mary won the Miss South Dakota in 1970 and was also the semifinalist in the Miss America 1971 pageant.
She was born Mary Johanna Harum on the 8th of November 1950. Mary attended Augustana Academy and graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls. She also taught English for two years at Washington High School. Whilst teaching, she also produced and hosted her own talk show on KSFY-TV.
Hart began her full-time career when she started working in 1975 at WMT-TV, Iowa then to KMTV, Nebraska. In 1976, she moved to KTVY, Oklahoma where she co-hosted with Danny Williams in a show called Dannysday. She was also a sales representative for a school yearbook company for some time.
Her life throws her a break from TV when she wanted to change her career from journalism to pursue acting. She landed a small role in Days of Our Lives and few TV commercials. Almost out of money, she landed a job as a co-host on the Los Angeles version of the syndicated PM Magazine. Later in 1981, she was a co-host of Regis Philbin's first national talk show on NBC.
She was sacked along with the cancellation of the show four months later. She went on and gave an interview to Entertainment Tonight (ET) about the show cancellation. The next day she was promptly hired as the ET correspondent. 13 weeks later, she was the show's co-host with Ron Henderson.
ET sees much change throughout the years especially change in the male co-host from Ron Henderson to Robb Weller to Josh Tesh to Bob Goen to Mark Steins but Mary remained the co-host of the show from 1981 to 2011. When Mary left the ET, looking for a change, she was replaced by Nancy O'Dell.
