Marin Mazzie, 57, Broadway Star, Dies After Being Diagnosed With Ovarian Cancer

Marin Mazzie, the Broadway star who got three Tony Award nominations for her roles in Ragtime and Passion, died three years after she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She was 57.

The actress passed away Thursday morning (September 13) at her home in New York City, surrounded by her loved ones.

Marin's publicist, Kim Correro, confirmed her death by releasing a statement to PEOPLE on Thursday.

I confirm Three time Tony Award Nominee Marin Mazzie passed away at her Manhattan home peacefully at 10:10 a.m. this morning surrounded by her husband Jason Danieley, close friends and family.

Her husband Jason Danieley also shared a statement to confirm his wife's death.

The statement begins,

Incredible human being, loving wife, dedicated family member, devoted friend and Broadway star, Marin Mazzie passed away this morning at 10:10 a.m. in the comfort of her New York City apartment surrounded by family and close friends. Marin, a three-time Tony award nominee and recent inductee into the American Theatre Hall of Fame (among many other accolades) was diagnosed with Stage IV Ovarian Cancer in May of 2015.

Over that time, while fighting her own fight, she took it upon herself to help spread awareness of Ovarian Cancer and to help find an early detection for the disease, of which, currently, there is none.

As the tragic news emerged, American Theatre Wing took to Twitter to pay tribute to Marina, writing, "Forever in our hearts, Marin Mazzie."

Marina is survived by her husband, mother Donna Mazzie and brother Mark Mazzie. A private gathering and a fuller Celebration of Life have been planned.

The funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
