Man Shot Dead For Paying for Meals for Strangers at Florida Waffle House

A man, namely Craig Brewer, 41, was fatally shot by another customer while paying for strangers' meals at a Florida Waffle House on Sunday, April 7, authorities have confirmed.

Multiple sources reported that Craig was handing out $20 bills to Gainesville Waffle House customers when a man allegedly turned violent.

During a news release, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was allegedly shot by Ezekiel Hicks, 25, after the two involved into an argument.

According to witnesses, they began to fight after a Hicks' female acquaintance was upset Craig offered not to pay for her meal.

Hicks then left the restaurant and returned with a handgun and a few seconds later, he allegedly shot him in the head and killing him.

A spokesperson for sheriff, Lt. Brett Rhodenizer, said, "This incident went from a verbal altercation to a homicide in minutes, if not seconds."

According to the press release, deputies were already called for the restaurant reaching maximum capacity before the suspect shot the victim.

When deputies arrived at the scene, Hicks was found nearby. They recovered the gun and arrested him. He is charged with carrying an unlicensed firearm and first-degree murder.

Hicks admitted to police that he shot Brewer to death.
