Kristi Yamaguchi was home-schooled for two years in order to accommodate her training schedule before graduating from Mission San Jose High School. After graduation, Kristi joined skating and started taking ballet classes, as she was a victim of clubfeet since her childhood.
A prominent skater Kristi made her skating career debut along with Rudy Galindo, who is also a figure skater. With the assist of Rudy, Kristi won the World Junior Championships and Senior Pairs Title at the U.S. Championships, by which they came into the spotlight. However, the stage partner separated after 4 years of their relationship and both of them decided to focus on their solo career.
