Komla initially studied pre-clinical medicine at the University of Jos, Nigeria. He left for his home country where he started studying medicine at the University of Ghana but later graduated with a BSc. in Sociology and Psychology. He has also completed his Master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard University.
Komla started his career as a host of Joy FM in Accra, Ghana and was the winner of journalist of the year award in 2003. Then Dumor joined the BBC African Service as a host of radio program "Network Africa" in London in 2006. Komla has also presented “The World Today” on the BBC World Service from 2008 to 2012. In 2011, Dumor began presenting the World News and Africa Business Report on BBC World News and early mornings on BBC One and the BBC News Channel.
Komla got married to Kwansema Quansah in 2001, with whom he has three children together. Unfortunately, Komla died on 18 January 2014 in his home in London. Komla is earning a lot of salary from his broadcast career which shows that his net worth is about $50 million per year till 2014.
