Kaya Scodelario on Me Too Movement; Opens Up about Suffering Sexual Assault at Age 12

"The Maze Runner" star Kaya Scodelario has also been the part of the #MeToo movement since some months back. She revealed that she has also been a victim of sexual assault and is the survivor. In the series of tweets, she shared the story of she opened up about her story but hopes her harrowing experience doesn't define her.

In an interview with, during the promotion of her upcoming movie Maze Runner: The Death Cure, she revealed to have received 'wonderful response' from the public. She said,"I am now dealing with a new side of it, which is this,” she said. “I will be asked about it forever now."

"I hope it doesn’t define me but it will always be under my name and I accept that – but I am proud I was brave enough to do it and I am grateful for the support I had from friends." the actress added.

The 25-year-old British actress said it took her 13 years to bravely talk about her dark past. On her Twitter October 16, she wrote:

"It’s taken me 13 years to say #MeToo.He is still protected by ‘family members’ in Brazil. They’ve told lies to papers to try to silence me. To finally speak out and not be afraid. To everyone still suffering silently, you never asked for it. NOBODY DOES. I do this for my son. So that he will see one day that we all have a voice. And that this behavior can not be tolerated any longer."

Scodelario is married to Benjamin Walker and has a 13-month-old son.
