A Canadian actress, Katheryn Winnick was born on December 17, 1977, in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada. She is the daughter of Lesia, Vice-President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and Roman Winnicki. She grew up with her three siblings, Daria, Adam Winnick, a Canadian soldier, and Marjan actor. Winnick studied acting in the New York's William Esper Studio. She has a licensed bodyguard, who is a 3rd-Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, and a 2nd-Degree Black Belt in Karate. At the age of 7, she started studying martial arts.

Winnick opened her first martial arts school when she was 16. Later, she started three martial arts school in New York and Toronto. She speaks five languages, English, French, Russian, Italian and Ukrainian.

In 1999, she took her first step in the entertainment industry through a Canadian science fiction drama television series PSI Factor; Chronicles of the Paranormal where she portrayed the role named Suzie.

In 2013, Winnick got her big break from a historical drama television series Vikings. She played the lead role as Lagertha in the television series along with Jessalyn Gilsig, and Travis Fimmel.
