It's only been three weeks of Kate Spade's death and now the fashion designer's father Frank Brosnahan has passed away at the age of 89 on Wednesday, June 20.
As for the cause of death, Frank had been failing in health. He was reportedly at home, surrounded by family when he died.
The Brosnahan family has released a statement to Us Weekly and it reads,
We are deeply saddened to announced that Katy’s father, Earl F. Brosnahan, Jr. (Frank), passed away last night at age 89. He had been failing in health of late and was heartbroken over the recent death of his beloved daughter. He was at home and surrounded by family at the time of his passing.
Frank was married to his wife Sandy Palmer until she died in 1992. Kate's dad is survived by his five children, Missy, Earl II, Reta, Ann and Eve and their kids.
As previously reported, Kate, who created an iconic, accessible handbag line, died as she hanged herself in an apparent suicide on Tuesday, June 5. She was 55.
She was found at her Manhattan apartment by her housekeeper and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two days later, multiple sources confirmed the cause of death as suicide by hanging.
On June 6, Kate's dad spoke to reporters about his daughter’s struggle with mental illness.
He said at the time,
One thing we feel is that any talk that they do that helps somebody else, Katy would have liked that. She was always giving and charitable. If that helped anybody avoid anything — fine, she’d be delighted.
Rest in peace both Frank and Kate!
