Karl Lagerfeld, Fashion Icon, Dies At Age 85

Karl Lagerfeld, the legendary fashion designer who is the creative director of Chanel and Fendi companies, has died at the age of 85.

Chanel took to Instagram on Tuesday, February 19, to confirm his death. Alongside a black and white photo of Karl, the fashion company wrote, "It is with deep sadness that the House of Chanel announces the passing of Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director for the Chanel Fashion House since 1983".

Additionally, Fendi also shared an Instagram post to honor and pay tribute to him, writing, "Thank you Karl for the most beautiful journey. With all our love. Your Fendi family".

The exact cause of death of the fashion icon has not been disclosed yet. However, he reportedly had been in ill health before he passed away.

Diane Kruger was among the stars who paid respect to the iconic person via social media sites. to Lagerfeld on Tuesday morning.

The actress, 42, wrote Tuesday morning,

Karl.....I cannot tell you how much you meant to me and how much I will miss you," she wrote on Instagram. "I will never forget your kindness towards me, your laughs, your imagination I came to France to see you this week and introduce you to my daughter...I'm heartbroken I was too late Rest In Peace, I adore you.

Karl passing comes one month after sources reported that the fashion designer was absent at Chanel's Paris Fashion Week shows.

The event was attended by multiple celebrities like Kristen Stewart, Tilda Swinton, Marion CotillardTessa Thompson, Pharrell Williams and Sofia Coppola while Karl was missing when it came time for his final bow.

Funeral and memorial services for the late legendary fashion designer will be announced in the coming days. Rest In Peace Karl Lagerfeld!
