According to his family members, Mahdessian displayed the same streak in business that he displayed in his studies. Even as a young boy, he spent hours learning the hoops of business from his father at Madame Paulette, New York's legendary couture restoration house. He is currently the president of the company. Opened by John’s great uncle, in the 1950’s, after emigrating from Cyprus, it gets its name from the French woman who later became John’s great aunt.
Mahdessian’s father, Noubar, soon began working for his uncle and later on went to own the business. But it was John who, beginning from the 80’s, worked hard to transform the dry-cleaning business into the couture-restoration giant it is today.
From restoring family heirlooms to cleaning the interior of private estates, Madame Paulette is at the forefront of its industry. It has provided its service to more than 80 billionaires and has even worked behind the scene during the current US president Trump’s wedding. The company has been involved in VOGUE photo shoots, and the Chanel and AngloMania Exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, to name a few. Similarly, it is also the go-to place for Hollywood star and celebrities, making Mahdessian the Hollywood celebrity problem-solver and lending him the sobriquet of “Sultan of Stains”.
Mahdessian considers his Armenian heritage the key to his success. His grandfather was a survivor of the Armenian genocide. According to John, “At the age of seven, my grandfather watched his father and his brother get shot, and his mother and sister become slaves on their own estate.” John’s grandfather was put into an orphanage to be converted to Islam before his brother pulled the boy out and escaped to the US with a distant relative living in the United States.
John became a reality TV star after appearing in the eighth season of The Real Housewives of New York City alongside Bethenny Frankel. He created quite a controversy in the show breaking into a fight with Frankel. And although he decided not to appear on the reality program from the ninth episode, he is quite popular given his affair with socialite, businesswoman, and reality TV star Dorinda Medley.
Medley is still John's girlfriend, though they are yet to get engaged. Not much is known about the salary and former spouse of the American national who is of Armenian ethnicity. But his net worth is at least 5 million dollars.
