Jimmi started his theatre career shortly after his graduated and worked for four seasons at the Williamstown Theatre in Massachusetts. 

He made his film debut from the teen comedy film Loser in 2000. He has appeared in many television series which include Rose Red, 24, NYPD Blue, Cold Case, and others. 

Moving on to his film roles, he has appeared in Herbie: Fully Loaded, Lindsay Lohan, Seraphim Falls, Liam Neeson, and Zodiac. 

In 2008, Simpson co-starred alongside Hank Azaria in The Farnsworth Invention on Broadway. His outstanding portrayal of Philo T. Farnsworth earned him a Theatre World Award. It was also described as Superb by The Chicago Times.
