James Haven was born on May 11, 1973, in Los Angeles, California, United States. His birth name is  James Haven Voight. He is the son of actor, Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, actress. James Haven is the elder brother of famous actress, Angelina Jolie.

Haven began his professional acting career in the film " Gia" in  1998.  It was directed by Michael Cristofer and written by Cristofer and Jay McInerney. The original music score was composed by Terence Blanchard.

James official career was started from the year 1998 and in an early phase, he started his career with minor roles and performances. His work in Gia within the year 1998 is often regarded as most acknowledged work done by James. In 2001, he appeared in Monster's Ball and in 2004 he appeared in an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and a 2007 episode of The Game.

James has been the executive board director of Artivist, a festival in Los Angeles which highlights films addressing human rights, animal rights and environmental issues since 2006.

Moving to his personal life, he is dating actress Ashley Reign. The couple has been dating for past few years. The couple was spotted together on several occasions but they mentioned that they are just good friends. But later, the two were spotted kissing each other at a Burbank parking and she admitted being in a "great" relationship and added she does not like giving details about it.  

He faced controversies for kissing his sister, Angelina Jolie. They shocked everyone with a "passionate" kiss on the Oscars Red carpet and their "incest" kiss had sparked an outcry from all quarters. Regarding his nationality and ethnicity, he is a white American.

In 2006 he purchased a house in Los Angeles for $1.565 million.
