Heath Ledger, known for his criminal minded role as Joker in the movie 'The Dark Knight', is no more in between us, however, is still in everyone's memories. Recently, Ledger's longtime friend Jake Gyllenhaal remembered the Oscar-winning actor and spoke the circumstances that led the two actors to be friends.
Featured as the GQ Australia's February 2018 cover star, Gyllenhaal revealed, it was 'mutual frustration' that led them to be friends. They both auditioned for the same role in the 2001’s Moulin Rouge, but none of them got the part. He remembered:
I was auditioning for Moulin Rouge!—Baz Luhrmann had chosen three actors. It was Ewan [McGregor], it was Heath, and me. And we auditioned with many different actresses, it was a long process. But I never met Heath, I only heard about him. We would be shuffled in and out of rooms. They would literally put me in a room and lock the door and Heath would come in and then Heath would be shuffled through the door. I never saw him.
They became friends based on their 'mutual frustration' after Luhrmann took Ewan for the role. However, the two friends landed the role in the 2005 romance-drama Brokeback Mountain. The movie was critically acclaimed and got huge attention.

The 37-year-old also remembered a chat with Ledger where the late actor revealed that he turned down the offer as the lead in Baz's Australia. He recalled:
I remember, a few months later, Heath called me and he was like, 'Hey mate, I got some news for you'. I said, 'What?' He said, 'Baz just offered me his next movie. I just wanted you to know, I f--king turned it down!' So that was how much Heath loved me, you know. "That was how I met him.
Heath Ledger made his impression after his successive roles in movies including The Patriot, The Four Feathers, Monster's Ball, and as Ennis in the controversial 2005 gay love drama Brokeback Mountain, opposite Jake. Besides, his role as Joker in the crime thriller movie The Dark Knight won him the Oscar Award.
Ledger passed away at the young age of 28 in 2008 due to an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. He is survived by his 12-year-old daughter Matilda- Gyllenhaal’s goddaughter, from his former girlfriend Michelle Williams.
