He joined Highland Park High School. He formed his first band, the Jade with his school mates. He graduated from there in the early 1960s and then he joined Southern Methodist University. While he was in Southern Methodist University, he majored in engineering but later he got transferred to business school and earned his degree in accounting.

As Jack's mother was also a great musician, he began his interest in music at a young age. He began playing guitar and graduated in guitar when he was aged 15 years old. In 1965, he co-founded a sound equipment provider company Showco.
