Inventive American singer, actor and rapper Ja Rule was born in 29th February 1976 in Hollis, Queens to Debra Atkins, and a health care worker. He is the only child and was mostly raised by his grandparents. His nationality is American and is of African-American descent.

1993

Started Rap career with Cash Money Click

His mother had raised him to be a Jehova's Witness which restricts any leisure activities but soon after Debra left the religion he quickly pursued his passion in music by taking a first step in 1988 by joining a hip hop group called the Cash Money Click.

1998

Joined record label Murder Inc.

In 1998 he signed with Irv Gotti's record label Murder Inc (currently known as The Inc) instrumental in the release of 6 of his albums up to date and would feature label artists such as Charli Baltimore and Ashanti on his song "Down 4 U" in 2002

Ja Rule released his debut studio album Venni Vetti Vecci on 1st June 1999 which debuted at No 3 in the US Billboard 200 and eventually certified Platinum by RIAA. It sold 184,000 units in its first week.

First No.1 Hit song on Billboard

"Always on Time" from his album Pain is Love becomes No. 1 track on the US Billboard 200. It features labelmate Ashanti on the track and was produced by Irv Gotti. Not only that, it became a worldwide hit.

2002

Nominated for a Grammy Award

2002 was a stellar year for Ja Rule as his third studio album "Pain is Love" was nominated for a Grammy award for best rap album. Album singles included 'Livin it Up' featuring Case and 'Always on Time' featuring Ashanti.

By 1998, he had signed with Irv Gotti's record label Murder Inc (currently known as The Inc) and was featured with Amil on Jay-Z's chart-buster song "Can I Get A...” which earned him popularity and toured with the likes of Redman, DMX, Jay-Z and numerous others. He has worked closely with Ashanti, Mary J. Blige, Sum-41, and Lil- Mo and has been nominated for the esteemed Grammy Award three times in 2002 and once in 2003. His first No.1 track on the Billboard Hot 100 was "Always on Time" featuring R&B singer Ashanti from his album Pain is Love and other popular songs include “I’m Real (Murder Remix), “Between Me and You” and “Ain’t It Funny,” which reached the top 20 on U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Competition is apparent in the music industry and he has feuded with DMX, Lil Mo, Eminem, and Foxy Brown and has an ongoing rivalry with 50 Cent. Apart from music, he has exhibited his acting talent in movies with Vin Diesel in The Fast and the Furious (2001), Scary Movie 3 (2003) and Assault on Precinct 13 (2005), in which he co-starred with Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburne. 

He was married to his high school sweetheart Aisha Murray in 2001 and has 3 kids - Brittney, Jeffrey Junior, and Jordan. His nationality is American and possesses the height of 5"7. 

In 2013, he was sentenced to 28 months imprisonment for tax evasion and gun charges after he failed to pay taxes on more than $3 million in earnings form 2004 to 2006. He was released from the jail on May 7, 2013.

His first album Venni Vetti Vecci released in 1999 went on the hit the no. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. The record sold 2 million copies worldwide and Ja Rule's earnings were estimated at $2.37 million.
