Ivan Rakitic is a Croatian professional footballer who plays as a central or attacking midfielder for Spanish club Barcelona and the Croatia national team. His partnership with his international Luka Modric is regarded as one best midfield duo in football today. Being one of the best midfielders he has won three league titles, a Champions League, and four Copa Del Ray.
Ivan Rakitic was born on 10 March 1988, in Rheinfelden, Switzerland, to a Croatian family of Sokci origin. He has a brother, Dejan and he has tattooed his brother's name on his right arm.
Rakitic began his professional career at Basel and spent two seasons with them before he was signed by Schalke 04. After spending three-and-a-half seasons with Schalke, he was further traded to Spanish Side Sevilla in 2011. After two years with the club, he was announced as the captain of the team in 2013, he the team to UEFA Europa League triumph.
Rakitic was further signed with Barcelona in 2014 and went on to win the treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League in his first season with the club.
