Recently multi-talented American personality, Howard Stern spoke out about the ‘awkward’ position he was in back in 2016 with his close friend Donald Trump. Stern revealed that in the year, POTUS personally plead him to speak at the Republican National Convention.

He said in an episode of My Next Guest Needs no Introduction hosted by David Letterman:

It was a very awkward kind of thing because Donald asked me to speak at the Republican convention. I was put in a very awkward position of having to say publicly and to him. I’m a Hillary Clinton supporter — always have been.

He added:

I was honest with Donald. I told Donald, ‘Donald, you know you also supported Hillary.’

Stern also shared that Trump was close to him throughout 2016’s White House bid.

He also shared:

He would call me from the campaign trail very often and say, ‘Hey, you watching?’ I was tickled by this, because I really kind of felt deep in my heart that this campaign was really more about selling a book or selling a brand. I do consider Donald a friend, but my politics are different.

Moreover, during the election days, Stern was also very open about whom he supported. Last year, he said:

Believe me, nobody wanted Hillary to win more than Donald Trump. He didn’t need this.
