Two and a half months after his unexpected death, an autopsy report obtained by Men's Health claimed the cause of death "unknown" due to a number of potential contributing factors and the inability to conduct a toxicology report.
The autopsy cited significant heart disease. His reported history of drug use and lack of specimens provided from the hospital was also claimed as the reason the actual cause of his death couldn't be identified. Any of the above-mentioned factors could have contributed to his death.
The Florida District Examiner's Office confirmed to Men's Health that no toxicology report has been conducted,
We did not perform toxicology analysis due to the admission specimens being discarded well before his (Piana's) date of death,
William Pellan, Director of Investigations for the District Six Medical Examiner's Office, told Men's Health.
Those specimens provide the ability to determine what is in a person's system at the time of the incident.
However, it has been speculated that the bodybuilder's death involved drug use. TMZ has reported that 20 bottles of steroids were found in the bodybuilder's house by police.
The former elite athlete had a net worth of $2 million at the time of his death.
Rich Piana's wasn't only a professional bodybuilder but also a businessman. Most of his success was also from his YouTube channel, where he uploaded videos related to bodybuilding.
His net worth as of 2017 was reported at $2 million. It was estimated that he made most of his fortune from his bodybuilding career, clothing line, and nutrition line as well as from Google Adsense income.
He also used to be with the company Mutant as the lead ambassador. No official statement has been issued on who will inherit his wealth.
