Harlan Bengel, 45, Broadway Actor Known For 'Phantom,' Dies of Apparent Suicide

Harty Condolence! Harlan Bengel, the Broadway actor best known for his work on Phantom, has died of an apparent suicide. He was 45.

The Broadway star was found hanging from an overpass in a Central Park, New York City, on Friday, March 3.

Though his death seemed to be a suicide, authorities said they are still investigating the case.

The actor was found hanging by a long cord from the Winterdale Arch near Central Park West and West 82nd Street with a bag tied around his head.

A suicide note was also found in his pocket, however, police didn't publicize its contents.

According to the Daily News reports, the note was actually a request; he asks in the note that whoever finds his body, call a certain person at a certain phone number.

His body was found hanging by a passerby who called 911.

Harlan is survived by his wife, Jennifer Piacenti, an actress and model who he married in 2004. The pair had got a divorce but they remained close friends.
