One month after Sarah Drew left Grey's Anatomy, Jesse Williams has looked back on her emotional last day.

On Monday, June 23, Entertainment Tonight talked to the ABC TV star at the NBA Awards red carpet where he reflected on the 37-year-old actress' surprising departure, calling the entire situation "sad."

36-year-old Jesse told ET at The Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California,

I mean, the whole thing is sad. It’s unfortunate. That’s my partner, my road dog, so it was unpleasant, but she’s such a professional and did such incredible work down to the last frame and I’m really proud to have had our time together.

Jesse, who joined the ABC hit series in season six (in the same season Sarah had joined the show), hinted that he worked hard for his co-star to stay on past season 14.

He said, "Well, I always make my opinion known. I’ll leave it at that!"

Sarah's exit was announced in March after working for the series for nine seasons.

When the news broke in March that Sarah and her fellow star Jessica Capshaw would leave the show at the end of the season, Jesse expressed his feelings in a series of tweets.

After Sarah and Jessica's exits were made official, Jesse wrote in one of the tweets,

Sarah and Jessica are easily among my very favorite people and coworkers, so this news f**kin sucks. Their immense talent speaks for itself but it’s them as people that I’m so grateful to know, privileged to have worked with and learned from.

In the Grey's Anatomy season 14 finale aired on May 17, it was revealed Sarah was leaving Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, in which she portrayed a trauma surgeon, for a new career helping the less fortunate.

In the series, Sarah, who played April Kepner in it, marries Matthew Taylor (Justin Bruening) in an impromptu wedding as her ex-husband Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) happily stands by her side.
