Georgia Engel, 'Mary Tyler Moore Show' Star, Dies At Age 70

Georgia Engel, the veteran actress who played Georgette Baxter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, died on Friday, April 12, in Princeton, New Jersey. She was 70.

Her friend and executor, John Quilty, confirmed her death to The New York Times. John told the outlet that the cause of death is unknown as the actress was a Christian Scientist who did not consult doctors.

Georgia was nominated for Emmy Awards twice for outstanding continuing performance by a supporting actress in a comedy series.

She started her career on Mary Tyler Moore during its third season in 1972.

Baxter appeared in the Broadway production of The Drowsy Chaperone, in 2006, originating the role of Mrs. Tottendale.

Ger other production acts include Muny Theater in St. Louis, Missouri through the late ’00s. She acted in the 2015 off-Broadway production of Annie Baker play which earned her an Obie Award

Georgia is survived by two sisters, Penny Lusk and Robin Engel.

Funeral and memorial services for the late Mary Tyler Moor show actress will be announced in the coming days.
