2002

Joined gymnastics classes

Douglas is an avid athlete. When she was just 6, she joined gymnastics classes as she showed the quality in gymnastics. Her elder sister was convinced by her play. At the end of 2002, she joined Gymstrada and began her formal training.

2004

Won Level 4 all-around gymnastics title

She is a successful gymnastic since a young age. In 2004, she took part in Virginia State Championships and won the title of the Level 4 all-around gymnastics. She took a full-time training with Coach Liang Chow.

2008

Made her national debut

In 2008, she took part in the national level the US Classic, she was ranked 10th in this competition but became the winner of 2008 Visa Championships. Though she won this championship, she didn't make to the 2008 Junior Women's National Team.

2009

Suffered a fracture in the growth plate of her wrist

2009 was a bad year in her life as she sustained a fracture in her wrist. She took a rest in 2009.  Because of her injury, she was not able to compete in the 2009 CoverGirl US Classic. At the end of 2009, she took part in national competitions but she was not fully recovered at that time.

Took part in Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup

She came back in 2010 and took part in Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup. She also took part in 2010 Pan American Championships and she shared a gold medal. She also took part in U.S. Junior National Championship in 2010 where she won silver medal. 

2011

Won a gold medal

She took part in City of Jesolo Trophy as a US member where she shared a gold medal. She also took part in CoverGirl Classic in Chicago winning a silver medal. She also competed in 2011 World Championships where she also shared a gold medal.

Won Female Athlete of the Year

Gabby Douglas, who is nicknamed Flying Squirrel, is a talented artistic gymnast from United States and the gold medalist in the individual all-around and team competitions. At the end of 2012, she was honored as the Female Athlete of the Year.
