A Florida high school student committed suicide on Wednesday, March 13, in the auditorium of her school, Lake Mary High School, shortly after asking permission to use the bathroom.

As per the report, the girl, 17, whose identity has not been disclosed, asked her teacher in the school near Orlando if she could use the restroom at approx. 7:45 a.m. Just five minutes later, the teacher heard a gunshot come from the auditorium, she said.

The school was placed on lockdown but it has since been lifted. Students were allowed to return home after the tragic news spread.

During a press conference, Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma said that neither staffs or nor other students were in the auditorium when the incident happened.

The school's nurse rushed to revive the student after hearing the gunshot. It's still unclear how the woman girl got the handgun.

As per the report, Victims advocates have notified the 17-year-old's father. They are also attempting to contact her mother, who lives outside the Florida state.

Investigators have continued to find out how the young woman was able to get the gun and bring it into the school.
