Florida K9, a Police Dog, Killed Christmas Eve Shooting at a Mall

A Palm Beach Sheriff's Office's K9 dog named Cigo died on Christmas Eve after a gunman opened fire near a South Florida shopping mall which is at Wellington Green, Palm Beach County.

During a news conference on Monday evening, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw of the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office said Cigo was credited with saving the life of the deputies.

He said, "He did his job, giving his life to save and protect our own." According to the sheriff's office, the suspect was also shot and was arrested at the scene.

According to WSVN report, He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The K9 officer, meanwhile, was being treated at a veterinarian emergency center, but The Miami Herald later reported that the police dog died during surgery.

The sheriff’s office said The Mall, which has more than 160 shops and restaurants, was locked down as authorities were investigating the shooting.
