The late singing legend, Tom Petty was born in 1950 in Gainesville to father Earl Petty and mother Katherine Petty, and worked as a groundskeeper at the University of Florida before his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame career took off.
Unfortunately, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers lead singer died on Monday, October 2 after suffering cardiac arrest at the UCLA Medical Center at the age of 66.

And Florida paid tribute to the late singer between the third and fourth quarter of the LSU game on Saturday at the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
