Explosion at Chinese Chemical Plant, Chenjiagang Industrial Park, Kills 50 in Yancheng

An explosion at a chemical plant, Chenjiagang Industrial Park, in Yancheng, in Jiangsu province of eastern China has left at least 50 people killed and more than 600 injured.

This tragic incident has become the latest casualties among multiple industrial accidents that have angered the public.

The blast, which occurred on Thursday, March 21, was brought under control on Friday, March 22, at approx. 3:00 a.m.

Survivors were rushed to more than 16 hospitals where more than 640 people are being treated for their injuries. Thirty-Two of the injured were in critically condition.

The fire at a plant, which is owned by Tianjiayi Chemical Company, spread to neighboring factories.

According to media reports, children who were at a kindergarten in the vicinity were also got injured in the blast. The reason what caused the pesticide company to be exploded is under investigation.

The company produces more than 30 organic chemical compounds including some highly flammable compounds.

According to the China Daily report, the chemical plant has been cited and fined for work safety violations in the past.
