Hammon started playing basketball since her days in high school. She was Stevens High School’s South Dakota Miss Basketball. Later after she averaged 26 points a game, she became the player of the year as a senior. Later, Hammon attended Colorado State University. There she was designated as the Colorado Sportswoman of the Year. However, Hammon’s glorious achievements did not just stop there. She became the WAC’s all-time leading scorer and was honored as WAC Mountain division player of the year.

In 1999, Hammon was signed with the New York Liberty. She played with the Liberty from 1999 to 2006 during her time in WNBA. She also played with the San Antonio Stars from 2007 to 2014. She was a six-time WNBA All-Star, two-time All-WNBA First Team, and two-time All-WNBA Second Team. After her retirement, Hammon became an assistant coach for the NBA's San Antonio Spurs. She was the first full-time female coach in any of the four major professional sports leagues in the U.S. Isn’t it inspiring?

Becky Hammon's awards and achievement

During her early days as a basketball player, Hammon won the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award. Her #25 jersey was highly respected as she was inducted in 2004 and 2005 into the Colorado State University Hall of Fame. Hammon won the Colorado Chill in 2005 and 2006. Similarly, in 2007, she won the NWBL Championship and the World League Championship with CSKA.

Hammon is counted as one of the Top 15 WNBA Players of All Time. In 1998, Hammon bagged home a Gold medal competing for the United States in the Jones Cup and a Bronze medal for Russia in the 2008 Beijing. She announced her retirement after the 2014 WNBA season.
